The Foolish hole

The Foolish hole is a work about a physical mass memory in terms of regret and loss. The model of the crutch that is used for the work is based on the vintage wooden crutches between the world wars. One hundred crutches are made of wood as a replica of them, therefore, that can be read more as nameless or history-less of the people who were injured in these wars. That is to say, since these created a hole like a metaphor for the emptiness, and then that can insist the continuous (endless) mass memories of anonymous memories.

  • Traces of yours

Traces of yours is a sculpture and photographic works. I spent three months traveling around Shodoshima, picking up drifting objects along the sea, and shooting each one with a studio set.
Make them into one big chunk and mix it with Shodoshima mortar, white plaster, stones, and sand. then, I made a mold with special white concrete.

The square rectangle has the same ratio (1: 1, 2) as the opening of the inner room that was originally in this room, and the fan of the remnant ceiling that was a somen factory was also photographed in this work: Molding Has been done. I made a wooden frame for molding from the timber that came out when the inner room was shattered.
The photo on the wall shows the date and place of picking up, and the number in the order in which they were picked up. Up to (No.1 ~ No303).

  • Still Life

Still life is a photographic work that is printed on a floating stainless sheet from the wall. The process of the image comes from flowering to withering and is exposed for a very long time in a dark room (the shutter of the camera is opened for a long time and the picture is taken with an ultra-trace amount of light). I am shooting with a 4x5 film camera called a large format camera. The number next to each title (e.g. 967680ss) indicates the number of seconds the shutter was open at the time of the shooting. There are individual differences depending on the flower, but some flowers are long and have been photographed for about a month or more.

  • Soul Reclaim Device / Echoes

Soul Reclaim Device is an activated sculpture that is designed to print photographs on the water without the use of paper. This causes the printing photograph to vanish in the water over time. After one hour, as the monitor shows the name of whose portraits would be in the next, a new photograph would be printed again. In the fact, this sculpture prints many photographs of the deceased which I collected from all over the world since COVID-19 has been spread. In that work, Echoes, I hypothesized that the relationship between "water and life (or death)" might have some kind of affinity in various countries, regardless of different cultural backgrounds, historical views, races, and religious views. I interviewed various people and collected data from photographs of the deceased family members. I believe that it is possible to find a kind of mutual understanding of the view of life and death that is common across national borders through the "relationship between life and water" that the work has. For example, in the Christian sphere, the story that water regenerates life in the “Baptism" ritual is widely known, while in Japan, as seen in the "Spirit boat procession", water leads to a new life as “Re-incarnation”, many stories of reincarnated are also known.

  • The Weight of January

The Weight of January is a performative sculpture. The audience poured melting color wax onto ice mountain until all ice would be soaked into the paper. The number of the weight of ice and pair stuck is the same as the number of victims of The great Hanshin earthquake in 1995.

  • You are gone, You are here / Outside of Inside /

These works are performative sculptures with the complex processes of creating in terms of a voiding form. At the beginning of the process, shaping some certain English words with styrofoams. And the words will be covered all over by thermoforming plastic; Polycaprolactone. And then, the inside of the words would be burned down with a burner until all inside styrofoam would be gone, although the outside shell of the words was reformed and stand with the heat.

  • A molding rain / CMYK

A molding rain / CMYK is a performance that is based on the experience of sculpturing with ice.
This work was created in the process of the artist's exploring the relationship between photography and sculpture. The artist thought that if he hypothetically projected something that disappeared, the two would be closer together. For example, if the act of taking a picture of something that disappears is to be developed as a sculpture, he thought that it would be the process of "molding" the icy melting things. When shooting an object with film, the film receives the light applied to the object (photosensitivity), transfers it, and prints it, which is the same series of activities “Positive (motif)→ Negative→ Positive(result)” when sculpturing.

  • Incarnation

The Incarnation is the project that attempts to capture the newborn life from some dead bodies of animals in a thermographic photograph. When the artist had stayed in Cambodia, heard about the celebration of the Buddhism wedding of local people who used dead animals such as a cow to the ceremony for all of invited guests. From that experience, he bought a cow or alligators for them, and attempt to keep the animal corpse to be a wait to be rotten and maggots born into it. the flock of newborn maggots begins to have a heat with their gathering, and a thermographic camera could succeed to capture only the heat of the maggots except for the cold corpse of the animal.

  • A quiet explosion in the loud world

A quiet explosion in the loud world is set up a firework which was supposed to explode about 87-yard diameters, in the box of strengthened glass. And then it exploded inside of the case (the scale of this size is 5x4). There were also set 9 TV monitors that show 9 timeline movies of the moment of the explosions and were from deferent perspectives, such as a close view of the explosion, far view from a hill to the building window, a swallow nest by the building, sky, and so on.

  • Lightigure

Lightigure is a photographic work that exposes the process from the moment the sparkler is lit to its extinction for a very long time (for a long time, open the shutter of the camera and shoot with very low natural light). Produced from 2015 to 2016, the series of about 100 sheets use a large format camera like Still Life. From the moment the sparkler ignites until it goes out, that is, I thought that the life of the sparkler could be fixed on a single film.

  • World Breakfast

World Breakfast is a photographic work that is a capturing moments when the breakfast is exploded on a table with gunpowder with pigment. When the artist has traveled to a country around the world, he set up and cooks the breakfast plate in a traditional style, and selects the color of the pigment from the image of the national flags to blow them up. According to the artist, the moment of the explosion causes a question about a shape between appearance and disappearance as a fundamental existence of material. And the exploded breakfast also reveals human behavior or desire between night and day, and end and beginning as death and life.

  • Form Sculpture

The Form Sculpture is a work as a photographic experiment to attempt to create a momental sculpture. the materials that appear in these photographs are raw mediums of sculpturing such as bronze, resin, steel, aluminum, paper, and once they are throwing or explosions on a pedestal, they are released from gravity. However, as soon as it is capturing by hi-speed shutter camera, in the photograph, it begins to form “eternal shape” as this continuation and momentary, and it exposes the invisible fragility of essential sculpture itself.

  • Phú Sĩ and Anh Đào

Phú Sĩ and Anh Đào is a same process to create Natural bone broken which is made out of pouring acrylic liquid resin, mixing a large amount of hardener, and crack it forcibly. If too much hardener is mixed with the plastic resin, it will expand due to thermal expansion and cracks will occur, but at the same time, the halfway- harden liquid resin will flow into the cracks and fix it. In addition, this work was intended to create same crack onto different two resin material at same time. These sculptures are also going to be cracked gradually and semi-permanently.

  • Ash to Ash

Ash to Ash attempt to capture the moment by large format camera when the ash of different plants or other materials like pigments is moving or bouncing on the ground. Ash of burned plants are metaphorical material as a death in use of several religious materials, meanwhile, are used as a fertilizer for growing new plants at agricultures. In terms of this comparison, these moving (or not moving) images of ash lead to the potentials of the material as that the various borders being vague and neutralize.

  • Here is saturated by nothingness

Here is saturated by nothingness is a very fundamental work of mine.
The white sculpture is made of half-transparent plastic and fabric that is referring to an actual wheelchair, which the artist had used.
On the left wall, there are seven paper braille boxes that were translated into braille from artist diaries.
On the right side, there is white text printed on a wall and that is the same writing as the braille ones.
And in the center of the foreground, is a pile of bandages, which is typed dialry as a binary system with a typewriter.
